The hiking will allow you to appreciate varied landscapes : Pouilly-FuissÈ vines, chesnut forest, pinewoods in BruyËres on the crest, box-tree sites (protected by decree).
The walk is shaded on most of the tour, and it offers superb sights of the rocks.
Betwwen the rocks, in a natural amphitheatre whose tiers perched on picturesque cliffs vie in beauty with one another, the tour takes you as high as 485 meters – the rock’s height – and then offers you a Roman track, a standing stone – classified historical monument – and traditional vinegrowers’ houses with simple or double “galeries” – stairs leading to a balcony on the side of the house.

This walk will allow you to discover the prestigious site of the Rock of Solutré and the vineyards surrounding it.
During the southern part of the route, an ideal spot will give you the opportunity to gaze at the charming village of Chasselas and its castle.
Then a little stroll within the neighbouring village of Davayé will allow you to admire its Norman bell-tower as well as superb houses typical of the Mâconnais.
In the center of this village, you will find: a church built in 932 for a priest from Cluny, beautiful winegrowers’ houses along the steep narrow lanes, 2 “lavoirs” (washing and rinsing boards), one of which has got an impluvium at the apse of the church.

The peculiarity of this walk lies in the variety and the beauty it has to offer.
During this hiking, you will see or catch sight of nothing less than 5 castles. From the top of the Rock of Vergisson – which is nearly as famous as that of Solutré – you cans see the whole of the Mâconnais vineyard, the plain of Bresse and even the majestic top of Mount Blanc if the weather is clear.
A little river runs through the village of Prissé, whose Roman name comes from Priscius – a Roman practitioner – mentioned for the first time in a Cluny charter dating back to 925.

Starting from the public square, the walker strolls up to the church square and leaves on his right the hamlet called “en paradis” (= in heaven).
The legend has it that the place was called like this by musketeers who stayed in Davayé while they were escorting the King to Mâcon. They liked the place so much that they named it "paradis" (heaven).
Then the hiker walks along the cemetery, up the path of the viticultural high school and arrives at a place called "les crèches". Then he tramps along through the vineyard as he makes for the Rock of Vergisson. As he goes down from the rock of Solutré, the hiker is enchanted with a splendid panorama embracing the village of Davayé.
