An
old castle can be found in the centre of the village. Instead
of protecting the villagers, it became the cause of many disasters,
owing to the numerous invasions that took place during the fatal
wars dividing France and Burgundy.
Leynes’s hilllsides – exposed
south-east and south-west – are mainly composed of
limestone soils to the west, sandstone
and porphyry to the east, while the
rest is clay limestone and sand.
The saint-Véran appelllation
spreads over a surface of about 90 hectares, which
represents a yearly production of 6000 hectoliters.
