The
village of Chânes Chânes, which spreads over thele of the Arlois valley, was called after the Celtic name "Chasn"
whose meaning is reminiscent of oak and strength.
In the center of the village,
the church proudly stands with its eight-angled, three –storeyed
bell-tower dating back to the thirteenth
century.
Next to the church, the old
castle of Chânes stands erect, flanked by a square keep.
