In 1947 the Association of White Wine Producers was created which gathered winegrowers from Saint-Vérand, Chânes, Chasselas, Leynes and Saint-Amour. At that time these villages produced white “Beaujolais village".

The villages of Davayé and Prissé, which produced Mâcon village blanc joined the association in 1953 and 1969.

The purpose of the Association was to apply for the appellation, to inform the producers and to present the project to the local authorities in order to get support and to deal with any administrative problems.

The result of more than 20 years’ labour was the decree published in the "Journal Officiel" on January 6th 1971, officially creating the appellation "Saint Véran".

The new appellation was issued with a strict code of practice defining the regulations to follow when a winegrower wanted to include his vineyard in the appellation zone and name it Saint Véran.

According to the decree, only the villages of Chânes, Chasselas, Davayé, Leynes, Prissé and Saint Vérand, from the Saône et Loire département, are allowed to use the appellation "Saint Véran".

In order to receive the appellation, the wine must be made exclusively from the Chardonnay grape.

The maximum yield for the Saint Véran plots is 55 hectolitres per hectare, with a minimum density of 8000 vines per hectare.

As always for an AOC, viticultural and winemaking practises are strictly controlled.

Every year, the whole production has to undergo laboratory analysis and tasting tests before being put on the market.

The name of the appellation must appear on the Saint Véran label, as well as the words "Vin de Bourgogne".
